FAG CONCEPT8 provides Constant Lubrication
Reference / GTS | 2016-09 | GTS 0113 | English

FAG CONCEPT8 provides Constant Lubrication

At the Visonta open pit mine, coal is transported to the power plant via kilometer-long belt conveyors. Smoothly operating belt conveyors are thereby decisive in ensuring a trouble-free process. In order to ensure this process, optimum lubrication – despite contamination and severe vibrations – is necessary. Furthermore, the lubrication points are often difficult to access or are very isolated. The FAG CONCEPT8 lubrication system filled with high quality Schaeffler lubricants from the Arcanol range was chosen for this application.

Greater Reliability for Roller Presses
Reference / GTS | 2016-01 | GTS 0102 | English

Greater Reliability for Roller Presses

The customer’s concentrator plant is amongst the first ones in South America that uses roller presses. But at the beginning of operation at the customer’s plant experienced some problems: At around 2 500 to 5 000 hours, the performance of the large size bearings in particular was well below the expected operating life of 8000 up to 12 000 hours, and they were severely damaged at the end of the operating period. Using on the Global Technology Network Schaeffler created a cost-effective solution – consisting of lubrication and seal recommendations as well as reconditioning – which increases the bearing life for this specific application.

Special Heating Equipment for extra large Workpieces

TAKRAF GmbH, a globally-operating supplier of equipment for mining applications and conveyor equipment of all types, needed a heating device to heat large and heavy gearbox components like gears and rolling bearings. Within the framework of the Global Technology Network several Schaeffler specialists worked together and developed specially for this application a device that can generate sufficient electric power required for such large components – the FAG Heater5000.

Short-Term Monitoring Solution for a Tube Mill
Reference / GTS | 2015-03 | GTS 0097 | English

Short-Term Monitoring Solution for a Tube Mill

Sunstate Cement Ltd. is one of Australia’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of high quality cement products to commercial businesses throughout Queensland and Northern New South Wales. With a capacity to produce over 1.5 million tonnes of cement per year, Sunstate Cement Ltd. has a long history as a major contributor to Queensland’s largest and most impressive infrastructure projects for over 25 years. Challenge for Schaeffler: Sunstate Cement Ltd. had performed visual inspection of the Tube Mill No1 trunnion drive end bearing. During this inspection they found the bearing was in a reasonable condition after 28 years of service and decided to extend the service life by rotating the outer ring by 180°, what is a common practice for this type of application.

Vibration Monitoring of Rolling Bearings on High-Pressure Grinding Roller
Reference / GTS | 2014-08 | GTS 0090 | English

Vibration Monitoring of Rolling Bearings on High-Pressure Grinding Roller

The customer is an international manufacturer of cement, ready-mix concrete, and gravel and is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of construction materials. Challenge for Schaeffler: High-pressure grinding roller mills are used to grind raw materials. Damage to the bearings of grinding rollers results in disruptions to the production process. In order to minimize this risk, Schaeffler was commissioned to conduct vibration measurements as part of a pilot project supported by the machine manufacturer (OEM).

Reworking and Reconditioning of Support Rollers for the Steel Industry
Reference / GTS | 2014-08 | GTS 0073 | English

Reworking and Reconditioning of Support Rollers for the Steel Industry

The customer is a medium-sized French steel manufacturer who has specialised in the production of cold-rolled strip steel. The range of products comprises surface- finished strip steel as well as quenched and drawn steels. The company belongs to an internationally operating steel group from Germany. Challenge for Schaeffler: The outside diameters of the support rollers produce the surface of the finished strip material. Six to eight support rollers form a cluster. The surfaces of the support rollers and the minimal variation of their diameters are, therefore, decisive for zero-defect quality and the thickness tolerance of the finished product.

New Vibrating Screen Bearing from FAG

New Vibrating Screen Bearing from FAG

The following solution is of great interest both to all vibrating screen manufacturers in the OEM sector and to MRO customers in industries where materials need to be screened. Challenge for Schaeffler: Fretting corrosion (tribocorrosion), which develops as a result of the loose fit on the shaft, as well as the high-frequency vibration in these machines impair the proper functioning of the floating bearings. As a result, thermal expansions of the shaft can generate axial preloads which in turn can cause failure of the bearing and damage to the shaft.

Development and Mounting of a Split Cylindrical Roller Bearing
Reference / GTS | 2014-04 | GTS 0045 | English

Development and Mounting of a Split Cylindrical Roller Bearing

TAKRAF GmbH can look back on nearly 200 years of experience in the fields of open cast mining equipment and bulk materials handling equipment. In the late nineties, TAKRAF developed a new generation of large gearboxes for bucket wheel excavators; currently more than 20 of them are in operation in mines all over the world. Challenge for Schaeffler: One of the output shaft bearings in a bucket wheel gearbox was to be replaced without dismounting and opening the gearbox. The whole work had to be carried out, in an extremely confined space, within a few days during a scheduled shut- down of the bucket wheel excavator.

Considerable Cost Savings through FAG Split Spherical Roller Bearings

Pilbara Iron, a member of the Rio Tinto Group, is a world-class asset manager that operates and maintains mining, rail and port facilities in the north-west of Western Australia. Challenge for Schaeffler: At Pilbara Iron’s Dampier Port Operations replacing the bearings on the bucket wheel excavator drive was a maintenance nightmare. The standard unsplit FAG SGC Pillow Block housing was difficult to access.

Split Bearings – an excellent Way to reduce Machine Downtime

The customer is a global mining and processing company headquartered in Brazil with numerous locations around the world. He produces a large number of minerals, including gold, zinc, lead, cobalt, aluminum and iron. Challenge for Schaeffler: The customer wanted to reduce costs and machine downtime at one of its Brazilian iron pellet production plants, while increasing the components’ service life. Replacing conventional bearings in this application takes a considerable amount of time.
