VoltShield-P Insulation Bearing

To maintain the lifetime of bearings in e-mobility powertrains, preventive measures against parasitic bearing currents are essential, in particular for the newest generation of drive systems. The VoltShield-P insulation bearing is an efficient countermeasure to prevent bearing damage caused by high-frequency circulating currents. This bearing is characterized by an overmolded thermoset insulation layer on the outer ring as a cost-efficient alternative to conventional hybrid bearings.

VoltShield-P Insulation Bearing

Highlights

  • Up to 50 % cost-savings in comparison to ceramic coating and ceramic balls
  • High temperature stability
  • Reliable and long-lasting

Advantages

  • Prevention of bearing damages caused by high-frequency circulating electrical currents
  • Space-neutral replacement of hybrid bearings in most cases possible (depending on ring thickness)
  • Reduced CO₂ footprint compared to hybrid bearing (up to factor 3)

Features

  • Overmolded plastic layer on outer ring, layer thickness 1 mm
  • High temperature stability up to 150 °C
  • Suitable for wet or dry environment (sealed or non-sealed bearing)
  • High geometrical precision and mechanical robustness, equivalent to steel bearing
  • High electrical impedance close to hybrid bearings (ceramic balls)
  • High speed capability with speed factor up to n x dm = 2.4 x 106 mm/min (example 6308 bearing: 37,000 rpm)
