Active Purge Pump (APP)
Supports active regeneration of the active carbon canister by flowing evaporated hydro-carbon (HC) gases into the intake manifold. Fuel vapor stored in the activated carbon canister must be purged, typically by utilizing a pressure differential (Δp) between ambient air and the intake manifold. In vehicles where this pressure differential is unavailable, such as turbocharged small engines or when there is insufficient time to perform a purge, as in some hybrid electric vehicles, the APP system facilitates the controlled flush of the active carbon canister.
