  • Schaeffler will join for the second time the International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition (EICMA) in Milan
  • With a focus on “energy efficiency”, a comprehensive portfolio will be presented in the areas of combustion, hybrid and full electrification for two-wheeler and powersports vehicles
  • Showcase will cover components and system solutions, including engine management systems, control units, electronic throttles, sensors, actuators and bearings

The 82nd edition of the International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition (EICMA) will open its doors on November 4th to 9 th in Milan. Under the motto “The Motion Technology Company”, Schaeffler will showcase technical solutions for energy efficiency via a range of components and systems tailored to the two-wheeler and powersports sector. From a full electric scooter equipped with an innovative battery management system, to an advanced hybrid demonstrator featuring a newly introduced automated manual transmission, to combustion technologies maximizing vehicle performance and improving fuel efficiency and a diverse range of bearings. Schaeffler demonstrates how innovation can enable more efficient mobility for all kinds of two-wheelers. “We firmly believe that energy efficiency is key to advancing eco-friendly mobility. Our solutions aim to improve combustion systems and turn early concepts into tangible, customer-focused innovations,” explains Torsten Bellon, Head of 2-Wheelers and Powersports at Schaeffler. “This year at the EICMA, we are taking a major step forward in product maturity and engineering evolution for the benefit of our customers.”

Smart battery innovation for electrified two-wheelers
Although electrification is progressing more slowly than initially projected, it still holds huge potential for future growth. Schaeffler continues to develop dedicated solutions compliant with the sector’s evolving technological requirements. The 48-volt e-scooter exhibit, tailored for vehicles in the 3 to 7 kW range rated performance, will be in the spotlight at this year’s EICMA – featuring a 48V e-motor, an electric drive control unit (eDCU), an inductive rotor position sensor, a battery thermal runaway sensor, and an advanced battery management system (BMS).

While Schaeffler has secured several electrification projects in Asia for the eDCU, the spotlight at EICMA turns to the new unveiled battery management system – designed for example to monitor battery health and ensure cell balancing. The BMS offers notable advantages, including its integrated and compact design. Schaeffler is also working toward embedding functional safety and cybersecurity features through a cost-effective strategy, positioning this product as an optimized solution for lightweight two-wheeler applications.

Hybrid and connected two-wheelers are gaining momentum
The two-wheeler market is currently undertaking strategic recalibrations toward hybrid powertrains, especially for medium-sized vehicles. Schaeffler will showcase a hybrid motorcycle demonstrator featuring a 48V e-machine and a powertrain domain control unit. The main innovation will be the automized manual transmission (AMT), which aims at facilitating the riding experience for the driver, as it automatically disengages the clutch and shifts gears on its own. The AMT includes both a gear-shifting actuator and a clutch actuator. By switching to automatic mode, the vehicle optimizes gear shifts for peak efficiency – delivering smoother performance while cutting down on fuel consumption.

Another megatrend is connectivity. Schaeffler will present at EICMA its innovative “analytics box” designed for edge computing. This system enables data processing directly at the analytics box, when filtering and transmitting the most relevant data to the cloud. For example, individual riding profile, battery state of health, state of charge or predictive maintenance. Thus, reducing data load while preserving the most relevant data.

High-efficiency combustion engine management system
In response to customer demand, Schaeffler continues to develop dedicated combustion engine management system solutions to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. Schaeffler will showcase a premium motorcycle featuring Schaeffler’s powertrain components, such as the engine control unit, customized electronic throttle controls, port fuel injectors, and sensors. Beyond these powertrain components, Schaeffler is offering high-performance and low-friction bearings aimed at improving energy efficiency of today’s combustion powered two-wheelers.
